This procedure checks the patency of the fallopian tubes using a contrast material under X-ray control.
Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy can be diagnostic or operative, and diagnostic hysteroscopy may transition into operative hysteroscopy.
This procedure involves using an instrument called a hysteroscope to view the inside of the uterine cavity. Images from the hysteroscope are transmitted to a monitor, providing a detailed view of the uterus’s interior. The hysteroscope enters the uterus through the vagina and cervix, so no incisions are needed.
Recovery is quick, typically within a few time, and does not require an overnight hospital stay. After the procedure, some discomfort may occur, including mild nausea, menstrual-like cramps in the lower abdomen, and genital bleeding.
Hysteroscopy is suitable for clarifying various symptoms or issues, such as: heavy menstrual periods, unusual vaginal bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, pelvic pain, recurrent miscarriages, difficulty conceiving, diagnosis and treatment of endometrial polyps, diagnosis and treatment of fibroids and adenomyosis, diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine adhesions, diagnosis and treatment of congenital anomalies, among others.
The method is preferred because it involves minimal blood loss, quick recovery, and allows for attempts at conception as early as the next menstrual cycle. Additionally, it requires a short hospital stay and has a low rate of postoperative complications. In some cases, hysteroscopy is the only method for diagnosing and treating certain conditions.
