(HBA Test - Sperm-Hyaluronan Binding Assay)
This test evaluates the ratio of mature to immature sperm in an ejaculate sample by assessing sperm binding to hyaluronan, a key component of the egg’s surrounding matrix. Mature sperm acquire the ability to bind to hyaluronan, indicating high fertilizing potential.
A specialized slide coated with hyaluronic acid is used to differentiate sperm maturity: mature sperm attach but move their tails, while immature sperm remain free-moving. The percentage of bound sperm determines fertilization suitability—values above 65% indicate good potential for IUI or conventional IVF, while lower values suggest ICSI as the preferred method.
