Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI involves the direct injection of a single sperm into the egg’s cytoplasm using specialized microscopic techniques. Only mature eggs can be fertilized with this method. Fertilization is assessed the following day.
ICSI is used for male factor infertility, such as: - Low sperm count (oligospermia) - Reduced motility (asthenospermia) - Abnormal sperm morphology (teratospermia) - Obstructive azoospermia (e.g., after vasectomy) - High DNA fragmentation in sperm - Failed previous fertilization attempts
